Update 19th June 2025

Dear Cromhall Community and supporters of Own Our Oak.

We promised to update you all after our last communication, and we apologise that it has taken longer than we expected.

Based on the pledges we received from all of you, and due to changes from the current owner to the initial agreement, we presented our best proposal. They have been considering our proposal for almost 3 weeks.

The current owner has now informed us that they have an offer from another party, that exceeds what we as a community were able to offer. Their expectation is that they will sell to this other party.

Assuming this all goes through this means the Own Our Oak will not need to be involved further. However if that sale is not successful we may get another chance later.

At this point the committee has no further information on the potential buyer and their plans for the Royal Oak, so cannot answer any questions you might have.

So, as long as the new buyer intends to keep the Royal Oak as a pub, this will be good news for everyone.

Thanks for your support,

The Own Our Oak committee

Update 28th May 2025

Thank You – What a Community!

Firstly, an enormous thank you to every individual, family, household, business and organisation who have pledged their support to help save our pub.

Thanks to your belief, enthusiasm and generosity, we are thrilled to share that we’ve raised a phenomenal:

  • £80,330 in pledges from individuals in our community and beyond
  • £8,000 from local businesses and organisations

That’s right – over £88,000 in just six weeks. What a truly remarkable achievement. This reflects the passion and determination of our community to bring The Royal Oak into community ownership. We should all be proud!

What’s Happening Next?

As you will recall the target for the pledges was originally £100,000.

So despite not reaching this target from the pledges, the committee sees the potential of still achieving the original plan.

Therefore, discussions are on going between the committee and the owner to see how, with reduced pledge support, we can make this plan a success.

In Summary

  • £88,330 pledges made – a huge success in just 6 weeks!
  • Discussions with the owner are ongoing.
  • We hope to have further news within 2 weeks.

Thank you again for your continued support, energy, and belief. Together, we are showing what a small community with a big heart can achieve.

We need your support!
Deadline - Extended to 18th May

We have now published the share scheme for making the Royal Oak in Cromhall our community pub.

Please click here to view it.

We need to reach £100,000 in pledges before 18th May to move on to the next phase. No money will be collected at this stage.

Pledge Top-Ups

For those of you have already pledged we have an answer to the question some of you have asked, "can I top-up my pledge?".

If this is something you wish to do, please head to the pledge page again and fill in with your details and enter your top up amount in the "Pledge in GBP" box. We can then add this to your original pledge.

As an example, if your original pledge was for £250, and you want to top-up your total to £400 then make this second pledge for £150.
